It’s the type of thing where, when one person does something really good, it only helps your performance. I feel like the best example of that is when Kristin comes out in the beginning of the show. It’s such an amazing entrance, and she has such charisma and charm that she immediately–no matter what state the audience might be in–she immediately warms them up. And then it only makes my entrance and my beginning song better. No, we don’t compete for the spotlight. We have to compete as characters a little bit, but we just challenge one another. And we try to keep it really fresh, and we throw each other different things every day, just to keep ourselves on each other’s toes.

Being a role model is about being true to myself.
All the beautiful imperfections make the perfections.

Idina hates the word ‘armpit’; she thinks it’s a horrible word.
So I consider myself incredibly lucky to, uh, get to sing some pretty amazing songs. You know, songs- songs about people, you know, people that are different; people that are perhaps ostracized or are thought of differently in this world. People who overcome that- who find a way to take the thing that makes them really different and harness it and then share it with the world. Songs like that. Songs like Defying Gravity, you know. I feel really, really lucky to have songs like that to get to sing, but then there are, you know- if I’m going to be totally honest, there are mornings that i wake up and uh, you know, I don’t feel like getting out of bed. I’m sure you have those days, you know. Maybe the night before, somebody broke your heart or uh, I don’t know. Maybe you heard something that was said about you that kind of rocked you to your core. Maybe you just look in the mirror and you don’t like what you see. So, uh, you know, I have those kind of mornings, you know. I’ll be honest, you know, the last thing I feel like doing is singing a song like Let It Go. Sometimes, I just want to sing a different song.
The Wiz? I was never in the Wiz. I’m not black, I’m Jewish! My son’s black and a Jew…
